@Karoke77 Your questions are provocative and insightful, but limited by preconceived notions. Such is the case with any who refute God… must do so on the basis of THEIR conception of God and deity. Just as we individually perceive the world around us, we work with one another to CONCEIVE based on those perceptions and it should be understood that it is no different with God. Whether through faith or reason our conceptions of God are as varied as individual psychologies. Deity as a whole

@Vehementi I’m curious. Tell me what evidence you would require to have an unequivocable belief in God? Understand that the evidence you will require will be for your conception of God at the time based on what you know and hear, but I guess I am interested in what your concept of God is and what would prove it’s existence to you. @Karoke77 You are fascinated by the symbol, stories and names people give to their insights of basic underlying reality (causality, life, death, relationship, unity, unity, harmony, disruption, integration, atrraction, love, connectedness etc.). Mythology is the garb which we humans tend to put on our insights. In terms of God and divinity your studies may bore to the underlying realities, the insights behind the names, stories and chimeras of religion and diety. Guidance in your studies!!!
@pokerdice1 ALL the stories are fiction. There have been many Gods in human history. The story of Jesus is beyong laughable. And Christians wonder why people protect Usama Bin Laden….same reason….human insanity….and idol worship. The earth is over 4 billion years old.
@pokerdice1 That would largely depend, because almost every description that I’ve heard of a god, or gods is vastly different, even when two people are describing the same deity. The only vaguely similar attribute is that it’s somehow supernatural.
Considering that in order to prove God exists we’d not only have to prove that the supernatural exists, and that some kind of god or gods exist, but we’d also have to prove that it was the Abrahamic God.
@Vehementi When all believers can give me a unified consensus on what God is, then perhaps we’ll start discussing what evidence would be acceptable. For example, we can provide evidence of gravity because we know what gravity should be like, if it were true, there are of course some details that differ from school of thought to school of thought, but the vast majority of it is based on observation. If hardly anyone could agree on what gravity should be like, then there’s no model to work from.
@Vehementi The common denominator of the God concept is divinity with personality and divinity at it’s root is unity, co-ordination, reationship and the motive power behind such qualities. The problem with the God concept for many is that when people try to attribute ultimate personality to these qualities it bears the mark of that person or cultures slant on those basic structures of philosophy that I mentioned of divinity. Human relationships at this time are our highest concepts of God

@pokerdice1 I don’t think I worded what I was trying to say very well.
With gravity, we all observe the same thing. We can all describe what we observe, and we can then try to explain it, but what we all see is the same, it’s defined. “Something falls”. We can also measure it, to make sure that what we’re all seeing is the same. We can measure how fast things “fall”, for example.
With God, EVERYONE’S description of what they feel/see/believe in is vastly different.
