Verdi’s AIDA – Nile Scene – Dance of the Priestesses – Cleopatra – Ancient Egypt

default Verdis AIDA Nile Scene Dance of the Priestesses Cleopatra Ancient Egypt

The beautiful music of Verdi’s opera “Aida” is set to scenes of the Nile River, Luxor, Abu Simbel, and other archaeological sites in Egypt. Also includes scenes from Cleopatra (1934) with Claudette Colbert and “Caesar and Cleopatra” (1945) starring Vivien Leigh. Video edited by Gilda Tabarez on July 19, 2009. NB: The flute intro for the Nile Scene is from the album “Giuseppe Verdi: Life and Works”, narrated by Jeremy Siepmann; while the chorus section is from the album “Verdi: Great Operas From La Scala”. There were no liner notes so not sure who conducted these pieces. I split the Nile Scene music because the flute was more audible on the Siepmann cd and the chorus sounded fuller on the La Scala cd.

My end-of-the-year history project ^^. We pretty much had to choose a person from the Renassance (I KNOW I can’t spell) and back, and do either a report, power point, child’s book, or movie on them. I *big suprise* did a movie, and being the Egypt fanatic I am I *another big surprise* did Cleopatra. I only put this up here really for the sake of my friend, who’s in another class, to see it, and I hers. You don’t need to comment or rate.

  • kavacaja says:

@DragonHeart06 what does Nefertiti’s picture have to do with Cleopatra, if you don’t mind me asking.

  • IMFLORIDA305 says:

Damn that last dynasty sure had some ugly folks in it.

  • jessiechristine says:

Octavia (Antony’s ex-wife) took them and raised them.

  • NADIANU says:

thanks jessiechristine, i bet there is so much more about them in history books it has to be very interesting to know . what they become maybe there is still some of that bloodline in our time.

  • jessiechristine says:

Well, maybe! Who know??? ;) There is still a possibility with Cleopatra Selene:
Historians have a theory that Cesarion has been murdered by the emperor Augustus Ceasar (Octavian), his father’s heir, when he was fifteen, sixteen or seventeen. It is also said that he made the same with Alexander Helios and Ptolemy Philadelphus.
Cleopatra Selene had three children with her husband Juba II: Ptolemy, Drusilla and Cleopatra.

  • NADIANU says:

    Good information.

as well as your chosen song.

  • SketchyPromise1 says:

you dumbos the song is desert rose

  • Moonstar0812 says:

Great video DragonHeart06! Love the song. The only flaw was Caesar’s will. Octavian was named Caesar’s heir for his and Cleopatra’s protection. If Caesarion was named heir he would have inherited and broken world, a Republic in revolution. Cleopatra, her son and all Egypt would have survived in Rome for only a few days before being killed. It was only through Octavian being named ‘Caesar’ did Egypt survive for as along as it did. Other then that it was a great video. I would have given you an A+!

  • AaliyahTVMusic says:

@teawead Some people are not sure what race she was. The only thing we know was that she was mixed with egyptian and greek ancestry .

  • sahajad says:

    @AaliyahTVMusic

No, Cleopatra was of Greek- Macedonian origin and she had red Hair. She was a descendent of Alexander the Great ‘s Grneral Ptolemy. He was Pteolemy 1 and she was the last Ptolemy 13 . Since they always married only Greeks, Cleopatra was Greek Macedonian.

But the first Queen to rule Egypt was in 1078. B.C and her name was Hatehpshut. She was of Asian Assyrian origin.

  • AaliyahTVMusic says:

@sahajad Then why was she queen of egypt is she wasnt egypitan ? And why did she follow egyptian traditons . That makes me confused .

  • MsToure says:

@kylaboudria The ancient Egyptians were Black!!! I will say this until the day I pass. Thank you.

This was done in such a magnificent and beautiful way, I doubt ANY producer anywhere could possibly match your exquisite talents. Oh, if only Verdi himself could have seen this creation. Sorry I could only give 5 stars. This is simply off the charts! I LOVED everything about this.

  • Parysia77 says:

Thank you so much, Justin, for your wonderful compliments. I think Verdi would be pleased with YouTube because more people can hear his music and that might inspire them to see his operas in their entirety.
